About FoilFinder

I built FoilFinder to solve a problem that all riders share, from beginners to experts.

While of course the gear is a big part of the fun, not all of us are gearheads. Learning about, choosing, and finding the gear that fits your individual riding style can be mysterious, time-consuming, frustrating—and even a roadblock to getting out on the water—and that’s where the real fun is.

If you’re anything like me, you have various spreadsheets from over the years comparing kites, wings, boards, foils, and all sorts of other bits of equipment. The landscape has gotten incredibly complex—and that can get in the way of getting to the fun of our super-rad sports.

These days, while there’s more information out there than ever, that also means that boiling it all down to an answer that makes sense for you is actually harder, not easier.

This is where FoilFinder comes in: it pulls all of the relevant information together in a way that no single person can—and that’s far superior to what you can get from a search engine or even one of the frontier AI models. It’s not as simple as dumping a zillion spec sheets and podcasts into ‘chat’ and hoping for the best—the system has to have the expert knowledge about how the sport works, how different riders use different types of gear, wind ranges, board volumes, riding conditions—many, many variables that simply aren’t possible to process without a detailed, expert-level knowledge base and heuristics guiding how to apply that knowledge.

The idea here is not yet another tech tool, but a fun box that removes the barrier between your stoke for the sport and your ability to get on the water with the right gear.

I started with parawings because that’s what I’ve been doing most lately, but FoilFinder will soon expand to inflatable wings, kites, boards, foils—and eventually beyond that to other types of gear. We’re already working with retailers and brands to bring the FoilFinder Fun Box to as many riders as possible. If you’d like to work with us, or have thoughts, questions, or feedback, drop us a line any time.

How we build the knowledge base

FoilFinder’s knowledge base draws on three kinds of sources: firsthand on-water testing, publicly available expert content (YouTube reviews, published articles, manufacturer specs), and structured product data. Every opinion is attributed to the person who said it and the source it came from—we believe the people who do the work of testing and reviewing gear deserve credit for their expertise.

No single reviewer or creator covers every product. FoilFinder’s value is in synthesizing dozens of expert perspectives into personalized advice that accounts for your weight, conditions, experience, riding style, and other variables. We’re not replacing the experts—we’re making their collective knowledge accessible in a way that wasn’t possible before.

No ads. Ever.

FoilFinder will never serve advertisements, sell your data, or let anyone pay to influence recommendations. Our only job is to give you honest, expert gear advice. When the time comes to make money, we’ll do it by licensing to dealers and brands and through affiliate links—not by turning your attention into a product.

Support

FoilFinder is a free, independent tool built and maintained by one person. If it’s helped you find the right gear, consider buying me a coffee — it helps keep the lights on and the knowledge base growing.
